Legal Aid
Legal Aid: If you cannot afford to pay for legal costs or if your case is eligible for legal aid (means tested), then you can apply for legal aid.
You don’t need to get evidence before talking to a legal aid solicitor or Civil Legal Advice, but evidence will need to be produced in order to assess whether you are eligible for legal aid. You can find legal aid solicitors using the Legal Aid Finder.
You could for example get legal aid if:
- you or your family are at risk of abuse ( video below by survivigeconomicabuse.org)– or serious harm, for example domestic violence or forced marriage
- you’re at risk of homelessness or losing your home (Domestic Abuse – Guidance on providing homelessness services to people who have experienced or are at risk of domestic violence or abuse – Gov.uk)
- you need family mediation
